Creative Leather Crafting Workshop
 
Join us for this leather workshop with local leather worker Alice Young ...
You will have the opportunity to examine leather samples, use various tools, and practice some of the techniques discussed … and then create your own leather project.
 
Participants will learn about different various uses of leather and some basics of leather crafting; selecting leather, various tools used, cutting, hole punching, hardware attachment, stitching, and leather care.

Participants will have the choice of making either a dolphin or an origami bird for a keychain.

"I am a self-taught crafter. So, I am a firm believer that if you want to learn something new, give it a try! I love making things, working with my hands. Leather work has been a lifelong passion, practiced as life allowed from my early teen years. I started out tooling - using metal stamping tools to create a design on leather. A few years ago, I started looking for something a bit more unique and discovered a plethora of patterns available online, like turtle backpacks, Minion handbags, or a leather chess set and board. Over the past two years, I’ve become involved in Viking reenactment. A large chunk of current leather work is focused on Viking based projects for fellow reenactors and the annual Largs Viking Festival."

All materials will be provided.  
Participants will leave with a lovely handmade leather dolphin or bird for a keychain, and if desired, leather samples from the tutor.

Monday June 9th,  10:00 – 4:00   (with 1 hour lunch break)
(snacks, nibbles and a social atmosphere will be provided; there will be a lunch break and you can bring your own lunch or buy something locally!)
