Kate searched Scotland for several years for exactly this ~ a place to showcase the makes of Scottish artists, artisans and designers and a place to host creative events ~ and in 2025, when the perfect venue became available, Grinn Arts&Design came to be! From Mackintosh to McQueen, Scottish designers and artists have had, and continue to have, a huge impact on hearts and minds around the world. You'll find just a wee bit of this extraordinary heritage at Grinn. About Kate Born in Canada to a family with Scottish roots, and now based in Largs (Scotland), Kate has been a creative for over 45 years. Growing up in Canada, Kate's parents were both artistic, and art & design very much ran in the family: Kate's father was a cartographer and Kate's mother was a graphic designer. Kate and her sister were both encouraged to be creative and artistic from a very young age, and both won numerous arts competitions as children. As a teenager, Kate spent her spare time sketching, developing her photography skills, and wanting to be an architect ‘when she grew up’. (Kate was regularly told off by her English teacher for having notebooks full of floorplans, rather than ‘notes’ in English class – but she won the award for the highest English grade in her final year anyway!) Deterred by the mathematics requirements needed for a career in Architecture, Kate went on to study Humanities and Business at University in Canada and in Finland – with a special interest in product design, packaging design, ergonomics and advertising design. She then moved to the UK and after an award-winning career in business, she then became a lecturer at College and University level. Eventually her passions, skills and knowledge merged together within an online education business focused on secondary-level education and the Arts. Kate has organized and run hundreds of classes, courses and workshops in Art&Design, on topics ranging from Christopher Wren to Sustainable Design. Kate has been an amateur artist and photographer for over 4 decades, and an educator for more than 15. She's passionate about sustainability, creativity and community. ~ Member of the Artists Information Company ~ Friend of The Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour ~ Friend of The Scottish Society of Botanical Artists ~ Member Scottish Contemporary Art Network ~ Friend of the Scottish Glass Society ~ Member of the Scottish Society for Art History ~ Friend of Royal Scottish Academy of Art and Architecture ~ Member Society of Scottish Artists ~ Member Charles Renee Mackintosh Society ~ Member Society of Scottish Artists ~ Member Victoria and Albert Museum (And she attends as many V&A Lectures/Events/Talks/Academy Courses as she can squeeeeeze into her diary!)

Gilly B Designs - Isle of Luing "My work is influenced by islands and the sea. I have been an island dweller for most of my adult life, though not born to one, it is where I feel most at home. For the past 8 years I have lived aboard a 43ft sailing boat, mostly in Shetland, but, also for a year in Norway. I make work about this life experience, on the sea and by the sea, watching people and creatures living on the edges in this most Northern Isle of the U.K looking out towards our Scandinavian neighbours." The Tickety Boo Coo The Tickety Boo Coo jewellery is handmade in Scotland by Elaine, who is a glass half full kind of girl with a fondness for a highland cow. It’s where clay mingles with my imagination creating unique sculptures and functional pieces. "My work is inspired by the nature surrounding us. If we spot a mouse one might appear on the lid of a jar. The spiral of a fern opening might become a pattern on a platter or a cup. The ripples in the water could inspire me to carve at a piece in a way that the glaze can sit to emulate those ripples. I want to make works that will remind us all to pause. To give our minds a moment of rest. A cup that sits comfortably in your hands with texture to feel and glazes that draw you in and away. That is a cup to be had. A cup that makes that first hot tea more satisfying and sets you up with a positive start to your day." Mark Sutton Mark Sutton is based on the Black Isle near Inverness and specialises in crafting exquisite, handcrafted wooden art. So, it’s not surprising that seascapes form the basis of most of my paintings, created from a mix of observation, memory and imagination. I love to bring out the abstract qualities using bold colours and strong light. Harris, Lewis and St Kilda always inspire.” Alisdair: “I’ve been painting and drawing for most of my life. I work primarily in watercolour and pen & ink, with everything in focus. Nowadays, the untamed land and seascapes of the Outer Hebrides provide limitless subjects for my work.” David Stubley Based in Stirling, Scotland, David Stubley is a ceramicist working primarily with Raku — a traditional Japanese firing technique celebrated for its unpredictability and organic beauty. Drawn to the elemental and transformative nature of the process, David creates ceramic pieces that are entirely unique, shaped by the interaction between glaze, flame, and combustible materials such as sawdust or seaweed. Each work emerges from the kiln bearing the marks of its making — crackles, smoky patterns, and iridescent surfaces that cannot be replicated, leaving their own fingerprint on the final piece, which you only see for the first time after lifting out of the flames. Tina Arthur Capturing the beauty of Scottish landscapes in watercolour. Tina Arthur is an up-and-coming Ayrshire artist, inspired by the beauty in Ayrshire. Aye Glass Situated in Ayrshire, Glass Artist Angus Corbett, handcrafts unique and bespoke fused glass artworks and fine art originals/prints. Glass art designs are created by layering different pieces of hand-cut glass on top of a piece of base glass. A firing of up to 1600 degrees causes the glass to soften and partially melt, fusing the pieces together. The glass is then slowly cooled to become strong and stable – making a decorative and/or useful piece for your home. Jenni Douglas Design Jenni’s mission is simple: be passionate about the creative process, use good quality, sustainable materials, buy local. Jenni has long had a passion for print, particularly the layered, beautifully textured block printed designs from the 1950s and 60s as seen on fabulous textiles, ceramics and in book illustrations. She creates her own print multiples and still makes each one herself in her workshop. This way, she can make sure all the colours, lines and textures look as good as they should do. She loves using the best archival fine art papers and industry standard giclee print technology, which creates a beautiful quality product to last a lifetime. Saskia Pomeroy “Life is for exploring, for diving into. I want to enjoy the process, and I want to FEEL each artwork as I make it.” Saskia Pomeroy graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 2007 and is constantly exploring the relationship between colour, texture and shape to create dynamic, textural, thoughtful works. She creates beautifully abstract pieces that we love at Grinn Arts&Design! “I like quite a traditional style of throwing, so it’s finding a nice balance between traditional decoration and something more abstract.” Approachable Earth Approachable Earth is committed to using natural materials to create items to love and use every day.
